Judge orders sheriff’s office to release documents to attorney under FOIA

The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas

Carroll County Circuit Judge Alan Epley ordered the sheriff's office to release several documents sought by an attorney in a recent Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.

Epley ordered Sheriff Chuck Medford on Wednesday to allow attorney Brad Karren to inspect documents pertaining to a case that Karren is defending. Karren also had asked that he be allowed to inspect and copy the sheriff's policies and procedures manual.

In response to Karren's April 14 request, Carroll County Prosecutor John Casteel responded that the sheriff's office did not have the records Karren requested.

During the hearing, Epley determined that the records did exist and that they should have been released under the auspices of the FOIA.
